2012 Winemaker magazine wine competition.

Wines are due in Vermont by March 16th so start getting those double gold and showstopper wines ready. For more information, and shipping address click on link above.

A few competitions that are coming up later in the year that you might want to keep in mind are:

American Wine Society

Their amateur competition is coming up in November, and their annual conference (which happens to coincide with the competition) will be held in Portland this year! Sounds like fun to me.

Oregon State Fair

This competition comes up in July. Not much info. up for it yet but keep checking back to their website. They will post it eventually.

It’s getting to be competition time!

Hey everybody, competitions are beginning for the 2012 year! Coming up quickly is the Newport seafood and wine fest.

We are a drop off point for this years competition but your entries need to be in to us by January 18th.

Oregon harvest

It looks like last weekend was when a lot of harvesting was going on here in the Willamette valley. I hope you all found the grapes you were looking for. There are a couple of vineyards that we have heard from that will be picking sometime this week if you are still looking but you are running out of time quickly! The grapes from one vineyard we hard from is just over 21° brix and 3.36 pH. Pretty normal from what I have been hearing for this year.

For those who are cold soaking or fermenting, I hope everything is going smoothly for you. (tip: if your must starts smelling like sulfur, eggs, or rotten eggs take action immediately! It will only get worse without intervention)

Harvest is over? Not even close!

I was talking with some people around the shop the other day and they where saying that in their opinion harvest was pretty much over for the year. Well I hope you all are in the same boat as me when I say that it hasn’t even begun.

I’m leaving Thursday morning to drive to Walla Walla and pick up my Syrah, and the Cab. Sauv. is still hanging trying for all it’s worth to ripen. It will be one more trip to get that goodness. It is most assuredly a late late year for everybody, but the grapes are slowly coming in.

Let me know how your harvest is going. Do you still have grapes you need to get? Have they come in already? What are you making? I want to hear what other winemakers are doing this year.

Harvest 2011

Well, since harvest is underway in Washington, and we received our first shipment of Merlot a few weeks ago so I thought I would share a few pics of the fun we have had crushing and fermenting. Our last shipment of grapes is coming in this weekend, It was a good time crushing with all of you and we hope to see you again next year. (I just received word that we can no longer get any Syrah. Everything is sold for the year.)

Want Syrah?

If anybody is still in search of Syrah for the 2011 season, I just talked to our grower and he has more! About 1000 lbs more! Right?? If you are want some contact us (503)232-8793 to get it ordered. I have a feeling it’s going to go fast so don’t miss out. It will be delivered 10/16 or 10/23 (both dates, depends on what is ripe when). It’s coming quick so do it….now…or else.
