Wines of the World, March – June 2011

Winexpert Argentine Wines:

Malbec: The Argentine Malbec has found uniquely favourable growing conditions in Argentina and has no doubt created one of the most successful and delicious Malbec wines in the world. A combination of desert climate, cold nights, and irrigation of eternal snows from the Andes, creates an especially healthy environment for these vines. An intense bouquet of damson plums, blackcurrant and violet aromas give way to a slight touch of hunting and leather notes. This richly purple coloured Malbec carries a velvety texture with long, soft flavours. Although it ages beautifully, firm tannins and mellow acidityallow this wine to be enjoyed while young.

Winexpert Chilean Wines:

Cabernet Sauvignon: Our Chilean version of this classic boasts black pepper and berry bouquets. Notably flavorful, with tannins that develop with age. Pairs with beef, turkey, lamb and stews.

Carmenere: Deep crimson, with dark cherry aroma, red fruits and berry notes running to a smoky, spicy finish with notes of dark chocolate and tobacco. With medium body and moderate tannins, Carmenre drinks well young and improves with age.
Drink with grilled beef, pizza, or dark chocolate.

Pinot Noir: Winexpert’s Selection International Series Chilean Pinot Noir is a bright ruby colour with delicate aromas of red berry flavours. Medium bodied and supple with a hint of herbiness, the mouth feel is very elegant with soft tannins and a subtle oak finish. Vibrant and food friendly, this wine is excellent with salmon, roast beef and lamb.

Merlot: Powerful fruit and spice flavour, with mellow tannins for a supple finish. Deserves ageing, but will develop quicker than Cabernet Sauvignon and will stand up to the same food pairings.

Chardonnay: Our Chilean Chardonnay displays charming flavours and personality: lively and medium-bodied, with citrus and apple notes. Versatile in matching with food, particularly with fine fish and seafood dishes.

Sauvignon blanc: A gorgeous nose of honeydew, peach and gooseberry is followed by a silky palate with white peach and mineral flavours and a long finish. Bright, crisp and inviting at three months it’s refreshingly complex and tropical, and will develop notes of basil and mint with age.
RJ Spagnols Argentine Wines:

Malbec Syrah: A mélange of 2 classic varietals made with a new world twist! Malbec and Syrah are blended to create a wine with aromas of toast while fermentation on Shiraz Genuwine Winery Dried Grape Skins adds hints of cherry and dark fruit to the palate. Available for a limited time only.
RJ Spagnols Chilean Wines:

Malbec: With cool temperatures and plenty of sunshine, Chile has ideal growing conditions for this full-bodied wine. Complimented by warm spice notes, Malbec boasts aromas and flavours of ripe blackberry and blackcurrant. The addition of our Merlot Genuwine Winery Dried Grape Skins creates a chewy, deep, rustic red wine with intense cherry flavours and blended oak undertones.
